George Mansfield- The Father of two foot gauge railroading. Two foot gauge railroads (24 inches between the railheads) were thought to be started by this gentleman in Massachusetts, USA. Shortly after their beginning the entire railroad was moved to the State of Maine to become part of the Sandy River & Rangely Lakes Railroad in the 1880's. |

| This photo taken in the late 1800's depicts a train from the Franklin & Megantic RR, located in the western part of Maine. The combination coach (the car directly behind the locomotive) is currently on exhibit at the Boothbay Railway Village. Built by Laconia Coachworks in 1884 this car carried both passengers and freight. |
